The Christmas Markets

But it doesn’t have to be like that – all across Germany, Christmas markets are wonderful historic events where you can find traditional grifts and great presents for everyone.
Friday Morning to Sunday Evening
Departing Friday morning from the south coast we will travel to Dover for the ferry to Calais in France. The ferry journey will take about one and a half hours.
On arrival in France, we will continue our journey by coach to Cologne which takes about 5 hours. On arrival in Cologne we will take a walking tour of the city center to see things like the museums and cathedral (roughly 1.5 hours) and visit the world’s famous Christmas markets.
The main landmark in the center of the city is the mighty Dom (cathedral). The cathedral was started in 1248 but took over 600 years to complete. Its two towers are 157 meters tall. You can go inside and have a look around and there is no entry charge but to climb the tower and see the cathedral treasures there is a charge of about 4 Euros. The cathedral is famous for containing the remains of the Three Wise Kings who visited Jesus in Bethlehem.
There are also some other great museums in Cologne, the Roman Museum, Modern Art Gallery. Most museums cost about 5 Euro to enter.
Take your time and discover Cologne’s Love Locks Bridge. 40.000 padlocks are now hanging from the railings of the bridge, each inscribed, painted, or otherwise decorated by the couple that hung it. 40,000 padlocks of love. Hang one of with your loved one or for one of your loved ones.
